Cassina presents new red lacquered versions of two icons that will celebrate their anniversaries in 2017: the Nuvola Rossa bookshelf (40 years) and the 699 Superleggera chair (60 years). A further tribute to the manufacturer Cassina who will celebrate its 90th anniversary the same year.
MedaMade is a registered trademark that guarantees the quality and the uniqueness of Cassina’s production, meticulously carried out in Meda in the Brianza area of northern Italy.
The Nuvola Rossa bookshelf and the 699 Superleggera chair are still today produced in Cassina’s carpentry workshop, the heart of the company located in Meda, which continues to be the fulcrum of its characteristic workmanship excellence.
The structure of the production area is organised on an industrial scale but at the same time it is composed of artisan workstations. The wood is worked here with the most modern and sophisticated machinery but always with the consolidated manual skill of the craftsmen who manage each stage of production, in particular the gluing, sanding and assembly. For example, the assembly of the Superleggera is carried out in a single step due to the peculiarity of its joints that make up the chair’s frame.
Cassina presents a new lacquered version of the Nuvola Rossa bookshelf which will become protagonist of the brand’s window displays all over the world for the 2016-2017 holidays.
The architect Vico Magistretti, who passed away 10 years ago, said that its diagonal frame recalls smoky Red Indian camps, wigwams, and Emilio Salgari and John Wayne fighting everyone: an ironic interpretation of this piece with a simple yet dynamic form.

The 699 Superleggera chair by Gio Ponti, produced by Cassina without interruption since 1957, is enriched with a new revised version of the Boxblocks fabric designed by the Dutch artist Bertjan Pot. This special version will be available in 60 limited edition pieces, to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
The Superleggera not only represents a symbol of perfection and balance between solidity and lightness, but it is also the fruit of Gio Ponti’s research and the experimental and productive ability of Cassina and its craftsmen.
