Entitled “ReFashioning Austria”, an exciting exhibition will open in Shanghai this autumn.
By kind invitation of the Liu Haisu Art Museums and on behalf of the Austrian Federal Chancellery, an exciting exhibition will open in Shanghai this autumn. Entitled “ReFashioning Austria”, it will give an insight into the diverse creative spectrum of the Austrian fashion scene and will run from 1st to 25th October.
The exhibition will include works from the fields of fashion, textiles, photography and animation over the past 20 years, as well as presenting new projects that have been specially commissioned for the event.
Curating the exhibition is Claudia Rosa Lukas, designer and editor of AUSTRIANFASHION.NET. With contributions from more than 70 Austrian designers and artists, the show will cover a wide range of styles and contemporary perspectives, and provide a snapshot into the Austrian fashion scene.
The focus of the exhibition will be selected outfits and collection pieces, which all stand out as examples of high quality, innovative and experimental design. With such pieces Austria is establishing itself on the international stage.
The show will also include works of photography, illustration and animation. Insights into the history of Austrian fashion and its teaching establishments will round off the show.
The kick off of this close collaboration with the Liu Haisu Art Museum Shanghai was a joint project July 2016 at the renowned Donghua University. Selected students attended a workshop on Austria’s rich cultural heritage, inspired by the Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshop) und fin-de-siècle fashion designer Emilie Flöge. The outcomes of the collaboration will be presented at the exhibition as well as in an own publication.
